The M's have won three straight against Cincinnati and seven of the last eight meetings between the two clubs, but tonight's matchup sets up much differently.
The biggest difference is on the mound, where the Reds send their ace, Chase Burns, to face former Cincinnati starter Luis Castillo. Castillo has struggled this season, bringing a 3-8 record and a 4.93 ERA into Tuesday's start. He also was rocked last season in his lone start against his former club - 4.1 innings, 7 hits, and 6 runs allowed.
Burns has emerged as one of baseball's brightest young arms. He enters this outing at 11-1 with a 2.54 ERA and has strung together 10 consecutive winning decisions. His only defeat came back in April, and he has been one of the most consistent starters in the league ever since.
Seattle controlled the opener, but this is a much more favorable spot for Cincinnati.
With Burns taking the ball and Castillo looking to reverse a difficult season, expect the Reds to respond after Monday's shutout loss and even the series with a victory Tuesday night.
